WILD Course Itinerary

Trip Length: 7 Days

Day 1

Arrival & explore downtown Seattle

Arrive in Downtown Seattle and enjoy a free day exploring Pike Place Market and other local attractions while the rest of your group arrives! Get some rest at our accommodations in a fun & colorful downtown hostel before our big week starts!

Days 2-3

Wilderness First Aid Training

Meet the rest of your guides early in the morning as we set off on our scenic drive through the snowy mountains to settle into our accommodation for the week, a rustic mountain lodge just for us. After a tour of the surroundings and group orientation, we’ll jump straight into Wilderness First Aid (WFA), CPR, and Epinephrine Administration training! Spend the next 2 days completing your training with hands-on field scenarios in the surrounding wilderness.

Day 4

Outdoor Leadership & Risk Managment

Continue to build upon your WFA training with field scenarios as you trek through the Cascade Mountains, building confidence in risk management, outdoor leadership, compassionate patient care, and decision-making in remote settings. Spend your down time relaxing in the lodge, playing games, or stargazing under the open sky!

Day 5

Apply your knowledge

Put your new skills into action as you collaborate with your team to plan the final expedition, applying everything you’ve learned throughout the week. Then, unwind and celebrate your growth with an afternoon of skiing, snowboarding, or sledding on our private ski hill.

Days 6-7

Final expedition & certificate ceremony

Join your team on our final assessment & team expedition through the Snoqualmie backcountry! That night, it’s back to Seattle for one final night of reflection and celebration.

TRIP END: After the final certificate ceremony. Get some good rest at our accommodations before making your flight home the following day.

Voices from the ground

Hear from the leaders who bring GIVE to life:

John Miller

WILD Instructor

“I’ve been involved with the WILD Course since 2016, first as a participant and now as a guide for the past nine years. The Cascades are amazing, it’s like living in a snow globe for the week! I love helping participants build confidence, develop leadership, teamwork, and risk management skills, and step outside their comfort zones. These lessons extend far beyond the backcountry, shaping their roles as leaders in their friendships, communities, and careers.”

Carly Jo Fiel

Program Coordinator & WILD Instructor

“I’ve been in the medical field since I was 15 years old and fell in love with outdoor medicine after attending WILD as a student in 2019. Now, as a seasoned WILD instructor and program coordinator, this course is the highlight of my year. It’s an inspiring week of invaluable personal growth, compassionate leadership, and so much fun. What I love most is watching every student step into their power as a leader and walk away from the experience more confident in themselves – in and beyond the outdoors.”

Mike Cesario

WILD Instructor

“As an outdoor enthusiast and guide with over 10 years of experience, I can confidently say the WILD program teaches essential skills for both backcountry safety and everyday risk management. I regularly use what I learned, and it reminds me why I value this program. Real situations do happen, and preparation is critical. If there’s one takeaway for every student, it’s this: being as prepared as possible is the key to handling challenges and staying safe in any environment.”
